چکیده

Broussonetia papyrifera L. (paper mulberry) is an alternative woody plant, which can used to replace part of the protein feed for ruminants. Ensiling effective way preserve fresh pasture and solve problem stable storage conversion paper mulberry in rapid growth period. However, low dry matter (DM), water-soluble carbohydrate, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) reduce quality silage. This study assesses influence wilting time (0 h 3.5 h; lighting: 3.43 × 104 Lux) three additives (Enterococcus durans, CL; cellulase, CE; formic acid, FA) on fermentation quality, aerobic stability, bacterial community whole plant B. The sample was mowed wilted 0 h, then had CL, CE, or FA added, followed by 60 days ensiling. results show all silage samples high with pH below 4.2, ammonia-nitrogen 100 g/kg DM, no detectable butyric acid. protected DM crude from protease activity (p < 0.05), CL most among them. Furthermore, influenced silage’s communities, but overall, treatment greatest impact communities. Wilting significantly improved stability 0.05). Enterococcus positively correlated (LA), while negatively LA Weissella 0.001). identified as main driver ensiling process present study. In conclusion, compared other additives, LAB economical improve degradation Our findings provide a theoretical basis production

Silage Fermentation & Additives

The primary goal of making silage is to maximize the preservation of original nutrients in the forage crop for feeding at a later date. Unfortunately, fermentation in the silo is a very uncontrolled process usually leading to less than optimal preservation of nutrients. In order to assist in the fermentation process, various silage additives have been used to improve the nutrient and energy rec...

Fermentation Quality and Additives: A Case of Rice Straw Silage

Rice cultivation generates large amount of crop residues of which only 20% are utilized for industrial and domestic purposes. In most developing countries especially southeast Asia, rice straw is used as part of feeding ingredients for the ruminants. However, due to its low protein content and high level of lignin and silica, there is limitation to its digestibility and nutritional value. To ut...

The Effect of a Silage Inoculant on Silage Quality, Aerobic Stability and Milk Production

A silage inoculant [Biomin® BioStabil Plus, BSP, a blend of Enterococcus faecium (DSM 3530), Lactobacillus brevis (DSM 19456) and Lactobacillus plantarum (DSM 19457)], was used on legume-grass silage [32% of dry matter (DM)] vs. an untreated control silage (CT). The material had mean crude protein (CP) and water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) concentrations of 174 and 88 g/kg,respectively. BSP resu...

Effects of calcium propionate on the fermentation quality and aerobic stability of alfalfa silage

OBJECTIVE To assess the potency of calcium propionate (CAP) used as silage additive, an experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of CAP on the nitrogen transformation, fermentation quality and aerobic stability of alfalfa silages. METHODS Alfalfa was ensiled with four levels of CAP (5, 10, 15, and 20 g/kg of fresh weight [FW]) in laboratory silos for 30 days. After opening, the silag...

Aerobic Stability of Silage

Many factors affect the silage fermentation process. For example, the DM content and buffering capacity of the crop to be ensiled, the amount of fermentable sugar available at ensiling and the type and numbers of microorganisms that dominate the fermentation process can markedly affect fermentation. However, Woolford (1990) stated that “the single most important factor which influences the effi...
